Some of the children
The adults and children in the area of Mtyu are friendly and very welcoming. Although they are very poor they are extremely generous and keen to extend hospitality and friendship.

These little girls were about 6 or 7 years old and were not dressed for the very cold wind. The little girl in the brown dress although wearing shoes only had on a very thin slip type dress with nothing else underneath. The little girl in the pink top had no shoes and a very thin cotton skirt.
The girls both had sores around their eyes and mouth due to infection. These two were beautiful little girls who laughed and smiled and followed us around all day after we met them. |

This is the pre school facility in the area. Although over 80 children were being looked after their were only two members of staff. One staff member was paid for by the government while the other was a volunteer. Facilities in the preschool were very poor with the main plaything being 4 used car tyres. |

This is Noluntu and her four children just ready to go out to school at 7.30 am. The children receive free school education up to the age of excondary school and then they must pay. Most families are too poor to sent their children to school so they leave after a junior school standard education and either find work or just hang about. |
